<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><Articles><Article><id>58</id><JournalTitle>PRESCRIPTION PRACTICE OF OSTEOPOROSIS IN A TERTIARY CARE CENTER</JournalTitle><Abstract>Osteoporosis is one of the various disorders that are getting importance in the present scenario. Osteoporosis may be
due to menopause, ageing, drugs (steroids, loop diuretics, Methotrexate, Heparin etc.), metabolic disorder and disease states
(COPD, myeloma, leukemia, rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis etc.). So we planned this study to find out the
prescription practice of osteoporosis in a tertiary care center. A cross sectional observational study was planned out. All
outpatients who were treated for osteoporosis were included. The data was collected retrospectively. Details on usage of
drugs were recorded using case record form. The collected data was analysed statistically. Data from 75 patients who were
treated for osteoporosis was collected. 79% of patients were females and 21% were males. Majority of the patients were at
the age of 61-70 and 71- 80 years .72% of patients were suffering from senile osteoporosis, 11% from postmenopausal
osteoporosis and 4% from drug induced osteoporosis .Calcium was prescribed to 88% of patients. Analgesics were given to
45% of patients. Bisphosphonates were given to 32% of patients. Calcitonin was prescribed to 8%of patients. Hormone
Replacement Therapy (HRT) was given to 7% of patients.
